You Are An Amazing Person! Talk Yourself Up to the Highest Level


I was having a conversation the other day with a friend

After about twenty minutes, he said to me…

“You certainly don’t sound like the woman I know from kickboxing”

“How so?” I asked

“The language you use about yourself doesn’t match the tough fighter I know from class. In class, you are fearless. You meet every command from Sensei with confidence” he answered

Without even realizing I was doing it, I began unconsciously down talking myself once again

“In class I’m just trying to keep up and show Sensei what I can do. I may look calm on the outside. On the inside, there is a running dialogue about whether the last kick was good enough.”

He chuckled “You just did it again!”

I laughed and was taken aback by my unseen reaction

It was such an automatic response, I didn’t realize I was doing it.

It wasn’t until he pointed this out to me that I stepped back, took a closer look

How common is it for people to use self-deprecating language

How often do we see how we down play our knowledge, abilities, skills

Negative dialogue about ourselves

Externally and Internally

The power of self talk is so incredible

It affects our moods, our resistance to depression, our satisfaction in life

We need to change how we look at ourselves

Acknowledging and recognizing the damage it causes is the first step

Pay attention to your words during the day

Have a friend give you feedback while you have a conversation

Anytime you feel like saying something negative, STOP

Take a deep breath, change the language to a POSITIVE

The more you practice, the easier it will be to catch yourself

Make the necessary changes

Change how you project yourself to others

Continue on your path to GREATNESS!
