Weekly Win - 8

Can you believe that we are already eight weeks into 2018?  Time has been passing so quickly. The weather here in Vancouver has been completely crazy.  When I left Quebec City on Monday, it was warmer in Quebec than here in Vancouver.  Stepping out of the airport into minus 8-degree weather was quite shocking.

Things went from cold to colder as the Lower Mainland got hit with a snowstorm.  Here in North Vancouver, we received a foot and a half of snow in about twelve hours.  If you’ve ever been to Greater Vancouver, you’ll know that we are famous for rain.  The municipalities don’t have a lot of snow removal equipment.  There is rarely a need for it, so when it does snow heavily, the city shuts down, and that is pretty much what happened Friday.  Many school districts were off on a Professional Development Day; the remaining districts called a “Snow Day” part way through the day.  It seems a lot of companies shut down early as there was a steady stream of traffic leaving the Downtown core around noon.

Anyway, enough about the weather.  Here are a couple of wins for the past week.

Sport Climbing BC (SCBC) had a great group of youth compete in the Youth Boulder Nationals in Quebec City.  These kids are amazing athletes, and it’s incredible to see a group of people come together from different gyms to support each other.  The climbing community is unique, and I’m proud to be a part of it.

Alana and I discussed her goals for the upcoming competition season for Difficulty/Routes. This week we started to lay out the framework for what she wants to accomplish in the next couple of months, and we are planning for next year as well.

The Olympics are wrapping up in Pyeongchang, South Korea.  The hottest topic has been the amazing ice dance between Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. There is such passion between those two, it's hard to believe they aren't a couple.... or are they?  In the medal count, Canada will likely finish in second place with a total of thirty medals.  This is a personal best for Canada.  Go Canada!!!!

That’s it for this week.  Stay safe out there as Mother Nature gives everyone one last hit of winter.  If you would like to contribute your own Weekly Win and have it appear next week, send an email to weeklywin@kandiceleaf.com
